My Version of the Red Lip

Have you ever struggled to find just the right lip color? Sometimes this can be quite the task!

I have never really been into the whole red lip thing, but even though I think it looks great on a lot of people, I just don't think it suits me so well. I have really been trying to be more open-minded about these things and really wanted to give the red lip a try, but every time I wear it, I just find that I look ridiculous. Anyone else get that way??

When it comes to lip color, I typically find myself browsing all the pinks. However, in one of my monthly subscription boxes, I received this Love & Beauty red lipstick from Forever 21. I've never tried any beauty products from Forever 21, I actually didn't realize they did beauty products!

The formula on this was amazing, I was actually shocked at how great the quality is. I found it to be very creamy and moisturizing and stayed put for a long time. I ended up being a little bummed out that this great lipstick arrived and its a color I know I won't get much use out of.

A while back I purchased a few of the Tanya Burr Cosmetics lipglosses. I absolutely love these, the formula is amazing and the smell great too! My favorite part about her lipglosses is that you really don't need to apply any lip color before wearing these. They come so pigmented and they really are beautiful colors!

Because I live in the US, we don't have any stores that carry these (that I'm aware of), so it's really hard to tell the color online when trying to purchase. I have loved all of the lipglosses I got except for Just Peachy. I found this one was just too light for me and I looked a little washed out. Even though it is still a great product and color, it just didn't work on my skin tone.

So, even though one of my favorite lipglosses didn't work out so well for me and I just received a great lipstick, but also not a shade suitable for me, what do I do???

I combined them! I applied my red Forever 21 Love & Beauty lipstick followed by my Tanya Burr Lipgloss in Just Peachy.

Together they made the perfect match for me. Not to dark, but not too pink either. It was a really pretty color that I felt suited me much better than a pale pink or a deep red! I now had a perfect "red lip," more like a muted red lip! :)

Now I'm able to use both products I really liked but didn't think I would and I really loved the results!

Have you mixed lip colors? If so, what's your fave?

  1. I love the lipstick! So pretty

    1. Thanks Candice, it was a great lipstick-so creamy!

  2. I really like this idea - I have a balm that is a bit too pale so I might add a darker lip to it.

    1. I hope it works out for you, I'm so glad now I didn't throw it out or give it away because I was too intimidated by the boldness. It really worked out :)
