Skin Care: My Dream Team (Part 1)

I've decided to do a blog series on my new skin care routine as I have found several products that I've incorporated and have fallen in love with. I have my Mom to thank for all of these products. She either led me to them, purchased them or helped me find them along the way. Aren't Moms the BEST?? :)

So I will be breaking down these posts by product in hopes that this will be informational, but not overwhelming. Also, my future posts will not be THIS long! I just thought it was important to share my experiences and be open.

Here's My (Poor) Skin Care Story:
I have been on the lookout for some new skin care products. As I've confessed a few times before, I have never really bothered to take the best care of my skin. I've been told before that I should start doing it while I'm young and that I'll be grateful I did when I'm older.

In all honesty, I will admit that I have been blessed with pretty decent skin. I never really had trouble with acne as a teenager or young adult. Therefore, I've never thought it was necessary to have to pay money for products that my skin didn't need. I have to say, this was the wrong mindset to have and I'm glad I have finally figured that out.

I can't stress enough how important it is to take care of your skin. Two things I am still guilty of is being a face-toucher and not being diligent about taking off my makeup at night! (Gasp! I know-I'm horrible at this!) I always catch myself touching my face, or resting my head in my hands or for whatever reason my hands just some how end up on my face! When it comes to makeup, I simply find myself too tired or too lazy at the end of the day to bother removing it and justify it by saying "I'm not wearing foundation or heavy makeup, it'll be fine..."

The truth is, it's not fine.

Recently, I've been attempting to wear foundation and as I mentioned above, I have not been diligent at removing my makeup at night. I started noticing that I was getting acne and redness on my forehead and it has really been bothering me. I wasn't sure if this was a reaction to my foundation or if it was my own mistake by not caring for my skin properly.

The Potential Damage:
I could be causing more harm and damage to my skin by not taking care of it properly. I am inviting clogged pores that can lead to acne. Some Dermatologists have said that sleeping in foundation prevents your skin from renewing itself at night, it needs to breath too! Clogged pores are not good for anyone! And of course, it can lead to pre-mature aging. Sleeping in eye makeup can be bad too. It can rub off during the night and not only get in the eyes but it can also cause infections, bumps or styes! Yuck! I had to ask myself if any of that was worth it? And is simply is not.

Needless to say, I have been desperate to get my skin under control and back on track. So I've decided to do a blog series on the products I've found helpful and hope you will too!

Let's get started!!

Skin Care: My Dream Team (Part 1)

Philosophy Purity Made Simple -3 oz (Trial/Travel Size) $10

This little bottle has so much power packed inside, its insane!

Step 1: Find a Cleanser That Works for YOU

In a recent trip to Sephora, my Mom purchased this Purity facial cleanser for me. She has been a HUGE fan of Philosophy for years. Now, I've tried many other cleansers (both drug store and high end) and I must say, nothing compares to this. In fact, I've been using MAC Green Gel for months (which I have loved), and this little baby blows that out of the water, by far!

Because Philosophy is a high end brand, I chose to purchase the small 3 oz bottle from Sephora for only $10. This way I could try it and see if I even liked it, without investing a fortune and being stuck with something I may not like or could cause skin irritations. This was an awesome purchase and I plan to buy the full size bottle when this is gone.

This cleanser can be used in the morning and at night and is so soft and gentle. I use this with my Clarisonic and when I am finished cleansing my face, it is the smoothest, softest skin ever. It's great at removing makeup (although I have personally not tried it on mascara) and leaving my skin completely refreshed and soft. The smell doesn't bother me either. I seriously feel the cleanest of clean and the softest of soft.

Another amazing benefit for me was that I didn't feel like my skin was all dried out afterward. Some cleansers tend to make my skin feel too tight or dry and moving into fall, that is the last thing I want!

I've been using it for about 2 weeks now, only at night (though you can use in the morning and night) and my skin has never felt better!

My Advice:
Start with a great cleanser. Find one that is suitable for your skin. This can be a tricky thing to do. Sephora is a great place to go because they are happy to make you up samples so you can go try it without spending your money on something that may not work for you. Also, I would suggest exploring their travel section up by the registers because they carry smaller versions of really amazing products. That is how I found this one and I'm so glad I did! Finally, if you are interested in it, go check out some reviews on it. I've looked at Sephora's website and read some of their reviews and most of them are 5 stars for this Purity cleanser (you can check the reviews here).

    1. I totally don't blame you, that is why I have stayed away. I'm really glad Sephora carries the 3 oz trial size. They have a lot of small ones to try, which is great if you are watching budget! :)

  2. Yesss, I adore this cleanser! It really does leave your skin feeling silky smooth, plus I think the smell is heavenly (kind of like a lemon bar or something). I'm starting to run a little low on my sample bottle, time to purchase the real deal! :) I'm looking forward to reading the rest of your favorites!
