Beauty on a Budget: Maybelline Falsies vs MAC Mascara

I have heard amazing things about Maybelline Falsies and it has been intriguing me for a while now. I have never really used drugstore makeup so I was pretty hesitant about my decision to purchase this mascara. I've always assumed that when it comes to makeup and beauty products, "you get what you pay for." So to me, I assumed that if you're not paying a high price for your beauty products, then you might be sacrificing the quality.

So I decided to go ahead and give this new mascara a whirl. I wanted to put my theories and assumptions to the test! Here is what I've found:

(Price: Under $7 at my grocery store)

(Price: $21 at MAC)

My Thoughts On Each:
Maybelline Volum' Express the Falsies: I really thought the wand was interesting. It was curved! I feel like this went on pretty wet, which I'm not a big fan of. I tend to look up when I do my bottom lashes and then I get mascara all over my brow bone from my top lashes. However, this is far less than a lot of higher end mascaras I have tried! I feel like I got the fanned out, full lash effect and I was definitely pleased with this, though I did feel like it took me longer to get my desired look.

MAC In Extreme Dimension Lash: I've used this particular mascara since December and I'm on my 2nd or 3rd (I've got to quit losing them). I feel like it goes on so smoothly and doesn't drench my lashes in mascara making it messy to work with. It's got an easy to use wand that I feel does a great job separating my lashes and also able to get in and get the roots. I've noticed, even with other MAC mascaras, sometimes I need to go through with a lash comb to de-clump. Not with this stuff! That is a huge deal to me. I am able to get my desired look pretty quickly with this mascara.

My Test:
I actually tested this out on my husband to get a real, honest opinion. I did my makeup as usual and on my left eye, I used MAC In Extreme Dimension. On my right eye, I used Maybelline Volum' Express the Falsies. Then I told my husband that I used two different mascaras, one higher end and one drugstore. I asked him to look very carefully and tell me if he could pick which one was the higher end and which was the drugstore. I had him study my eyelashes, the shape/curl, the coatings of the mascara, you name it!

My Results:
After staring at me for what seemed like an eternity, he finally gave up and said they looked exactly the same! He couldn't tell a difference.

This got me thinking....he is the one I am trying to impress, so why should I spend over $20 on a mascara, when a $7 mascara looks the exact same to him? I am getting the same effect using the $7 drugstore mascara as I am purchasing an expensive one. Why am I paying 3 times the price for the same effect? To me personally, I felt that the biggest difference between the two was the Falsies were a little harder to work with because of the wand. It took me longer to separate my lashes than it did with the MAC Extreme Dimension----is that worth 3x the price??

And the winner is......
Although I LOVE my MAC In Extreme Dimension Lash mascara, I have to admit, the Maybelline Falsies does a GREAT JOB at 1/3 of the price! Though I have only used it once, I really enjoyed the results and would say I would definitely buy this product again!

I am going to continue trying out the Maybelline Falsies and see how I like it overall. I think in time I will develop a stronger opinion about it. So check back if you're interested in my future opinion on this product.

Isn't it great to know that you can buy great beauty products, even on a budget? I sure thought so!

I'd love to know what your favorite drugstore mascara is. Leave a comment letting me know!
